Sisimiut Needs a Hero?

For many years, the political agenda and overall buzz toward Greenland has been mostly concerned with the nation’s raw materials: minerals and oil. But it turned out that the extraction of these raw materials was going to be a lot more difficult and expensive than experts first anticipated. Therefore, focus has returned to what a lot of Greenland’s population believe is the nation’s most valuable resource, namely the people of Greenland. Education and welfare have now become the big topics of discussion in the gigantic country with only 56.000 inhabitants.

Sisimiut, which is located on the west coast of Greenland, almost 200 miles North of the capital, Nuuk, is the nation’s fastest growing city, economically speaking. Sisimiut’s high school and Greenland School of Minerals and Petroleum attract a lot of young people from the neighbouring towns and villages. These young people are going to be part of defining the future of Greenland, and help answer the question of where the large nation is going.
